I'm always asked whether bodyweight exercise is best or weight lifting ? Well for me both are best and there is nothing like weight lifting exercise stunts height growth.
While talking about weight lifting exercises there are variety of exercise for different muscles like bench press for chest, squats for legs, etc. The exercise focuses on the muscles it is related with and the muscles which are not involved also get focused but not much. Example, bench press focuses mostly on chest but also work on shoulder and arms but not much.
On the other hand, while doing bodyweight exercise like push ups it focuses on chest, triceps, shoulder, lower back and core.
Both give us result but weight lifting exercise help to get much better result rather than bodyweight exercise. The reason behind this is weight lifting exercise focuses on one muscle more as I told earlier but bodyweight exercise focuses on lots of muscles hence, a lot of time is taken to repair the muscle tissues.
Well I just can't say which one is better but for a actual beginner who has just started, the best one is bodyweight exercise as those exercise will help you to adapt to weight lifting exercises.
As per me, before you join gym just start doing bodyweight exercise around a month or two. Once you get adapt to it you are ready to lift.
